Earthquake
A little off topic, but we had a bit of excitement this morning with an earthquake - 6.5 Richter, epicentre about 100 miles away. We certainly felt it! looks like no significant damage though...

Will if we're doing disasters, I lost my power for 2 hours and 14 minutes for unknown reasons while I was posting in the secure areas.
Didn't want your post to feel lonely.

Re: Earthquake
6.5?!? That's a nice jolt. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, so we get jolts here and there all the time. The last big one was 5.6 about 20 miles south from my home in November, I think. We felt the shake, but no damage. The big one for me was the Loma Preitta quake. That one was 7.2 centered on the San Andreas fault that splits the San Francisco Peninsula from the East Bay under the water. That one brought the Cypress 880 structure down along with part of the Bay Bridge down. At the time, I lived in a 100 year old home and the house swayed for about 5 minutes because of the old foundation. That one was scary. Needless to say, I know how it is living in earthquake land. Although I think Greece is a little more scenic than where I live.

Re: Earthquake
Tybae, I lived in the bay area during the Loma Preitta earthquake as well. I was at the Good Earth Restaurant in San Jose with a friend at the time. It was weird to see the scenery outside the window going side to side. I probably should have ducked under the table, but it was all just to fascinating to miss.

Nice.
My father was working in San Francisco at the time. He was on the 42nd floor of the Bank of America building, the second tallest building in San Francisco. When he came home very late that night, he said, "It was a good thing I had a spare pair of pants with me." When the earth shakes without warning, it's always an interesting time. Although, I'll take earthquakes over hurricanes, tornados and volcanos any day.

Re: Earthquake
Tybae,
I can imagine that would be terrifying for your father. I've never decided whether it's better to see a natural disaster coming or just have it surprise you like an earthquake. Anyone know a way to avoid them altogether?
Btw, I've seen you post on the NWN forums, you help a lot of modders. It's good to see you here too.

Ok, today the wind chill is -22 degrees with blowing snow. Does that count as a natural disaster?

Only if you go outside, accept the Triple Dog Dare and stick your tounge on the metal pole, ala A Christmas Story.

Hmmmm, no thanks. I walked 30 yards from my car to the door at work this morning with wet hair and it literally froze solid. Who needs styling gel

If I'm ever in weather that cold, call the police because I've been abducted against my will.
