Title: My Question
Post by: Alex Hugon on July 12, 2008, 01:37:46 PM
So I never did get to ask my question in the chat today -- I blame ol' FP. ;)

In any event, here it is: does the AME plan on continuing to cater to NWN1 now that the last patch has been released?  Or are there plans to move exclusively to NWN2 stuff (I hope not!)?  Just curious.

Also, when are the winners going to be announced? ;D

As far as I know there has been absolutely no disscussion on eliminating NWN1 from the awards.

;D NWN1 and NWN2 together make Neverwinter Nights  ;D

My view is that as long as NWN1 has a substantive community of builders developing for a significant audience of players, that the Academy can and should continue to cover awards for it. I think it is the community, rather than we, who will decide when and if awards for NWN1 are ever to be discontinued. Speaking personally, I don't see it happening anytime within the next two years at the very least. And I certainly don't see it happening next year by any means -- and certainly not after what we've heard about 1.69, and the amazing work that is being done to expand the capabilities of NWN1 even after the final patch is released. I'm even considering delaying my own plans to move to NWN2, so I certainly think that eliminating the NWN1 awards anytime soon would be premature.

I'm in agreement with Sirchet. Although I know that there are partisans who don't agree with me on this, in my view Neverwinter Nights is both NWN1 and NWN2. They are different versions of essentially the same game, each with unique strengths and weaknesses. When I say that I'm a member of the NWN community, I mean by that "Both NWN1 and NWN2."

I think we should drop NWN1 and NWN2 and just do World of Warcraft.

I'd sit on you but according to your title you're a bigger dragon than I  :-*

Outranking is far from larger.  Remember Napoleon?  ;)

Yes, but QSW is but a mere hatchling, whilst I am a Silver Dragon, admittedly of an unspecified size, but I must be larger!

What Andarian said is also the viewpoint of the NWN Podcast. If Tony is ok with it I may read his statement in the next podcast. This is a subject we have been talking about as well. Long Live Neverwinter Nights!!

Indeed.  That's one of the finest viewpoints I've ever seen here, or on any other forum.  It really isn't for us to decide, it's for the fans of NWN.  If they supply the demand, then, by the gods, we'll give it to them!  It's the least we can do.

I'm really pleased there are no plans to stop doing the NWN1 GD awards any time soon. I'm still in love with NWN1 sufficiently to hope it and the community keep going for a long while yet....and I certainly see plenty of evidence to support that hope!  ;D

Hi Trey,

Thanks! I'd be more than happy to have my comments quoted on the podcast, if you'd like. :)

*applies the breaks*

It's not an official statement. As it looks like it now, next year's awards are probably safe (assuming we have enough members). Beyond that it would be an intention only. I don't want to get caught in that whole promise thing just yet...

Ben's right. For the record, that's the reason I prefaced my comments with the words, "My view is..." -- to emphasize that I was speaking for myself and my own intentions, and not officially for the Academy. Support from the community in the form of enough qualified volunteers to support the NWN1 awards cycles will obviously be crucial to continuing them. Otherwise, our intentions won't matter, even if the player and builder community remains robust. So if continuing the NWN1 awards next year is important to you, then please do consider volunteering to serve as an AME member for next year. :)

Having said all that, though, I would still like my personal commitment to trying to continue the NWN1 awards cycles to be on record, as well as my view of the NWN community (NWN1 and NWN2) as a unified one. That's a point that I've spoken out on a number of times on the Bioware forums in the past.

I still agree whole heartedly with Andarian.

I also hope for more new blood on the NWN1 side.

I don't think Adarian's comment would be taken as a promise. I think his comment serves to remind everyone that we do not consider ourselves to be in an authoritive role, but more likely a community service role.

ps...I'm re-installing NWN1 and patching to 1.69 so I can volunteer to help with NWN1 next season.  ;D

Not so fast guys.  ;D
I can't seem to get past installing the second disc, (half way through).
I keep getting an error message saying, check temp log for installation error. I've attached a picture of the log. You may have to enlarge it to read it.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 32bit sp1
System is an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHZ
4.00 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8800GT
All drivers are current.

Any ideas why I can't install, my DVD drive is working. I just installed and am playing Mass Effect.
Any and all advice appreciated.

EDIT: Just lovely. I'm a Dragon Egg. Question is, which one of you did I get laid by?  :-*

Ah, the great joy of making fun of Hugie.  Terrorizing him brings a smile to my face.  ;)  Especially since he's from Boston and I'm a Yankee fan.  Hehe

ROTFLMAO!

It's good to have you here Ol' FP.  I'm trying my hardest to finish Almraiven so I can help you with Shadewood, but you created too good of a mod.  I want to do everything again.

Well, Chet.  I was going to send you to Amazon.com, but it seems their server is not up at the moment.  That's where I would look first, but at most of my local electronics stores, I can find at least 1 copy of Diamond.

That's the "Ministry of Silly Walks," to be precise. (Sorry, I'm a Python purist. ;))

I love Monty Python. A day does not pass when I can't help but hear John Clease say "This bird is no-more", (in my head) heh heh.

Well off to find a copy of NWN1. :)
